Support A Social Project

Please help me raise funds for my developing my final design project on helping the Rural Farmers in Pakistan sustain and develop their farming capabilities.

*any contributions you make are going be a big help  – THANK YOU!

My Vision.

To help shape the future of the Western regions of Pakistan (KPK & Balochistan) become stable by encouraging people to engage in farming instead of being strayed into the malicious hands of terrorism.

Key Objectives.

  • economically uplift the farmers beyond the poverty line of $2 per day
  • create awareness of more lucrative crops that can be grown in the region

Introduction.

A project inspired by social responsibility and economic upliftment of rural farming in Khyber Pakhtun Khwa (KPK) and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan. Research carried out by the KPK Agricultural University and the Government of Pakistan indicates that over 44% of the population in these areas are living under the poverty line which is below $2 per day. Surveys have indicated that over 5million hectares of cultivable wastelands exist in the two westerly provinces, currently sitting barren.

The Government of Pakistan along side many other organizations such as the UNDP and various NGO's have been working on economic development projects in these areas for decades. Despite their efforts the conditions remain dire today. My project takes an empathetic approach to cultural sensitivity and innovation within conventions techniques as well as possibilities of introducing new crops that can yield higher incomes for the farmers.

Project Schedule.

[March 2011]

I am currently working on developing a Social Enterprise model which will serve instrumental in approaching the farmers at their own level of sophistication when delivering farming inputs such as new crops, farming guidelines and improved tools. The enterprise will be inspired by empathy, cultural sensitivity of the tribal code, hierarchy and constraints. The model will provide an overview of the stakeholders, how the enterprise will sustain itself independently and how can the loop be closed.

[April 2011]

Alongside the enterprise model design and in depth research of current farming techniques in the selected region, I will be generating concepts for improving farming tools and associated aspects such as storage, packaging and transportation.

[May 2011]

I will visit the farms in KPK area where I will test elements of the enterprise model in order to prove their acceptability in the actual environment. I will also observe the farming process and analyze the ideas that I have generated with local farmers. My observations as well as their feedback will give deeper insight and help refine or even redesign the concepts.

[June 2011]

I will spend 2 weeks working with the farmers in North Western Pakistan after which I will return to London and start developing the concepts until the end of June to be exhibited at the Royal College of Art final degree show in July 2011.

By visiting the farmers in person I will be able to observe and address the real issues that farmers are facing today. This will play a key role in shaping the outcome of my design project in a meaningful way.

I would like to THANK YOU again for taking interest in my project and my ambitions to bring about a positive change in a very troubled region of the world.

Any contributions by you will make a great difference in helping me take this project further.
